Block \(\mathbf {LU}\) factors of generalized companion matrix pencils (Q995569)

For various bases, \(\varphi_0(x),\dots , \varphi_n(x)\), of the space of \(n\)th degree scalar polynomials, the authors consider the representation of the matrix polynomial \(\sum _{i=0}^n x^iA_i\) in the form \(\sum _{i=0}^n\varphi_i(x)B_i\). They give explicit block LU factors for the associated companion matrix pencils and suggest block pivoting strategies.
