Limits of saturated ideals

From MaRDI portal

The first main result of this article provides a necessary cohomological criterion for an ideal to be the limit of saturated ideals. The methods are explicitly applied to decide saturability of ideals with Hilbert functions of type \((1,d,d,\ldots)\) for \(d\leq 5\). The other important results are related to the study of classical and multigraded Hilbert schemes. It is established that for every Hilbert function \(H\), the set of points corresponding to saturated ideals is an open subset of Hilb\(^{H}\). Moreover, a functorial description of the set of all zero-dimenisional ideals with a given Hilbert function is provided.\N\NAs an application of the results, the authors improve the result in [\textit{T. Mańdziuk}, Linear Algebra Appl. 634, 149--178 (2022; Zbl 1509.14011)] on non-existence of wild polynomials, by showing that ternary degree \(d\) polynomials of border rank at most \(d+3\) are not wild.
