Localization, recognition and prediction of trajectories of objects in real time

From MaRDI portal

This paper is concerned with the approximate description of the motion of a system of rigid bodies as a function of time by using interpolation techniques with dynamical information arising from different sources. As a typical example of this kind of problems, the author mentions the roto-translatory motion of an artificial satellite around the Earth that can be tracked from several Earth-based stations by using dynamical information. The author outlines how rotatory and translatory measures can be written in terms of quaternions, and how with these data it is possible to use different interpolation techniques either to fit the motion to a given set of data or to extrapolate the available information. The proposed approach is of interpolatory character and does not take into account the dynamical equations that model the phenomena. No practical examples are given, and it is unclear whether or not the use of quaternions can improve in some sense the description of the above-mentioned dynamical problems.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0969.00044].
