Normalizers of Sylow subgroups in finite reflection groups

From MaRDI portal

The study of the normalizer of a subgroup is an important theme in reflection group theory. Given a parabolic subgroup \(P\) of a finite (real or complex) reflection group \(W\), it is known that its normalizer \(N_{W}(P)\) admits a semidirect product decomposition \(P\rtimes U\), where the subgroup \(U\) is called the \emph{H-complement} of \(P\) when \(W\) is a finite real reflection group and the \(MT\)-\emph{complement} of \(P\) when \(W\) is a finite complex reflection group.\N\NThe author obtains a semidirect product decomposition for the normalizer of a Sylow \(l\)-subgroup \(S_l\) in a finite reflection group \(W\). The main theorem states that \(N_{W}(S_l)=N_{P}(S_l)\rtimes U\) where \(P\) is the unique parabolic subgroup minimally containing \(S_l\) and \(U\) is the \(H\)-complement or \(MT\)-complement of \(P\). As a byproduct, for certain types of reflection groups \(W\), the author also proves the existence of a Sylow \(l\)-subgroup stable under the Coxeter diagram automorphisms of \(W\).
