Notes on influence of certain permutable subgroups on finite smooth groups

From MaRDI portal

The paper revisits and corrects the results by \textit{A. M. Elkholy} and \textit{A. A. Heliel} [Acta Math. Sin., Engl. Ser. 27, No. 8, 1547--1556 (2011; Zbl 1306.20017)] concerning finite groups whose maximal subgroups are totally or generalized smooth and which possess a permutable subgroup of prime order. Several counter-examples to the original theorems are provided and modified versions of Theorems A-D from [loc. cit.] are established with corrected statements and simpler proofs. The corrected classifications describe the possible structures of such groups in terms of cyclic groups of square-free order, certain \(P\)-groups, and specific semidirect products, depending on \(|\pi(G)|\) and the maximal length \(n\) of subgroup chains. The paper also derives equivalences between the existence of \(S\)-permutable subgroups of prime order and normal subgroups of prime order under these assumptions.
