Numerical solution of the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation

From MaRDI portal

The authors develop a time difference scheme using the cubic B-spline collocation method on a uniform mesh to solve the nonlinear one-dimensional Klein-Gordon equation \[ u_{tt}=\mu u_{xx}+\chi(x,t,u)=\psi(x,t)\text{ on }a\leq x\leq b, \quad t>t_0, \] subjected to the initial conditions \(u(x,t_0)=f(x)\) and \(u_t(x,t_0)=g(x)\) and Dirichlet boundary conditions \(u(a,t)=\alpha_1(t)\) and \(u(b,t)=\alpha_2(t)\) for \(t\geq t_0\) or Newmann boundary conditions \(u_x(a,t)=\beta_1(t)\) and \(u_x(b,t)=\beta_2(t)\) for \(t\geq t_0\). Third order uniform convergence of the time discretization process is established. Numerical experiments demonstrate the viability and efficiency of the proposed method.
