On rational stabilizing controllers for interval delay systems

From MaRDI portal

Linear autonomous control systems with delay are considered. Explicit conditions for the existence of a rational stabilizing controller are given for a class of systems composed of a delay element \(e^{- hs}\) with interval uncertainty in the delay. Also, a computationally tractable design method is described. This method explicitly yields the entire set of all constant gain controllers which robustly stabilize a family of systems with uncertainty. Illustrative numerical examples are provided. Let us formulate one of the main results of the paper. Let \[ P(s)=n_p(s)d_p^{-1}(s) \] be the transfer function of the system without delay. Here \(n_p(s)\) and \(d_p(s)\) are polynomials of the degrees \[ \text{deg }n_p(s)\leq \text{deg }d_p(s). \] Let \(C(s)\)fbe a rational controller given by \[ C(s)=n_c(s)d_c^{-1}(s) \] where \(n_c(s)\) and \(d_c(s)\) are relatively prime polynomials. Mathematically, the existence of a rational controller can be stated as follows: detect if there exists at least one rational \(C(s)\) such that \[ n_p(s)n_c(s)e^{-hs}+ d_c(s)d_p(s)\neq 0\quad (\text{Re } s\geq 0,\;h \geq 0). \] It is proved that a rational stabilizing controller exists iff \(d_p\) is a Hurwitz polynomial. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0901.00019].
