Permutable subgroups of linear groups

From MaRDI portal

This paper investigates permutable subgroups within linear groups, focusing on subnormality conditions, analogs of the theorem of \textit{R.~Maier} and \textit{P.~Schmid} [Math. Z. 131, 269--272 (1973; Zbl 0259.20017)] and transitivity of permutability.\N\NThe authors establish several subnormality criteria. Permutable subgroups are subnormal in nilpotent-by-Černikov groups (Corollary 2.3) and in homomorphic images of periodic linear groups when they permute with their conjugates (Theorem 2.5). For soluble-by-periodic linear groups, permutable subgroups are subnormal under certain conditions on the field characteristic (Theorem 2.15).\N\NThe main contribution (Theorem 3.1) proves that the Zariski closure of any permutable subgroup in a linear group is itself permutable and subnormal. Moreover, an analog of the main result by \textit{R. Maier} and \textit{P. Schmid} [Math. Z. 131, 269--272 (1973; Zbl 0259.20017)] holds: for Zariski closed permutable subgroups \(X\) of linear groups, \(X^G/X_G\) has finite exponent and is contained in a finite term of the upper central series (Theorem 3.4).\N\NRegarding \(PT\)-groups (groups in which permutability is a transitive relation), the authors show that for homomorphic images of periodic linear groups, permutability is transitive if and only if permutable subgroups coincide with subnormal subgroups (Theorem 4.1).
