Polynomial equations for additive functions. I: The inner parameter case
The authors study polynomial equations for additive functions. Some new characterization theorems for homomorphisms and derivations are derived, proved and discussed. The paper closes with an open problem: Is it true that every nonzero additive irreducible solution \(f_1,\dots, f_n\) of \(P(f_1 (x^{p_1}), \dots, f_n (x^{p_1}))=0,\) with \(P(0,\dots,0)=0\), is a derivation of order at most \(n-1\) and the identity function up to a homomorphism if \(P:\mathbb{C} \to \mathbb{C}\) is a polynomial and \(p_1, \dots, p_n\) are distinct positive integers?
