Positive fixed points for a class of nonlinear operators and applications

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: We consider the generalized continuous-time Lyapunov equation: A^*XB + B^*XA =-Q, where Q is an NimesN Hermitian positive definite matrix and A,B are arbitrary NimesN matrices. Under some conditions, using the coupled fixed point theorem of Bhaskar and Lakshmikantham, we establish the existence and uniqueness of Hermitian positive definite solution for such equation. Moreover, we provide an iteration method to find convergent sequences which converge to the solution if one exists.

Let the real Banach space \(E\) be partially ordered by a cone \(P\) of \(E\) and for \(h\succ\theta\) (\(= h\succeq\theta\) and \(h\neq\theta\), \(\theta\) denotes the zero element of \(E\)), \[ P_h= \{x\in E:\exists_{\lambda(x),\mu(x)> 0}\lambda(x) h\preceq x\preceq\mu(x) h\}\subset P. \] In the present paper the authors consider the nonlinear equation \(x= Ax+ x_0\), where \(A: P_h\to P_h\) is an increasing operator. Under some additional assumptions on \(A\) and \(x_0\), for any \(x_0\in P_h\), \(A\) has a unique fixed point \(x^*\in P_h\) and \(\| A^nx_0- x^*\|\to 0\) as \(n\to\infty\). Then the authors use this results to study the existence of solutions to quadratic integral equations with a linear modification of the argument, positive solutions of a second-order Neumann boundary value problem, and positive definite solutions of a class of nonlinear matrix equations.
