[Das Referat bezieht sich auf diese und die nachfolgende Arbeit.] Diese beiden Arbeiten bringen die Theorie der topologischen geometrischen Verbände zu einem sehr befriedigenden Abschluß. Sei \(G\) ein \(n\)-dimensionaler geometrischer Verband im Sinne von \textit{G. Birkhoff} [Lattice Theory. 3rd ed. Providence, R.I.: AMS (1967; Zbl 0153.02501)], und sei \(G_ j=\{x\in G\mid \dim x=j\}.\) Der Verf. definiert: \(G\) ist ein topologischer \(n\)-Raum, wenn auf jeder Menge \(G_ j\) eine Topologie gegeben ist mit (1) Verbinden ist stetig auf \(\{(p,x)\in G_ 0\times G_ j\mid p\nleq x\},\) (2) Schneiden ist stetig auf \(\{(h,y)\in G_{n-1}\times G_ j\mid h\wedge y<\cdot y\},\) und (3) die letzte Menge ist offen in \(G_{n-1}\times G_ j\). Die topologischen 2-Räume sind genau die topologischen (stabilen) Ebenen im Sinne von \textit{H. Salzmann} [Adv. Math. 2, 1--60 (1967; Zbl 0153.21601)] und \textit{R. Löwen} [Geom. Dedicata 5, 239--294 (1976; Zbl 0344.50003)], und jeder topologische projektive Raum von endlicher Dimension \(n\) [im Sinne von \textit{J. Misfeld}, Abh. Math. Sem. Univ. Hamburg 32, 232--263 (1968; Zbl 0164.20804); vgl. auch \textit{H. Szambien}, J. Geom. 26, 163--171 (1986; Zbl 0598.51013)] ist ein topologischer \(n\)-Raum. Diese erste Arbeit sammelt Eigenschaften topologischer \(n\)-Räume; z.B. ist das Verbinden stetig und offen, und die Topologie jeder Schicht \(G_ j\) ist Hausdorffsch und bestimmt die Topologien der anderen Schichten. Wenn alle Geraden wenigstens 3 Punkte enthalten, dann sind die Punktmengen von je zwei Elementen von \(G_ j\) lokal homöomorph. [Fortsetzung in der nachfolgenden Arbeit.]
