Abstract: We perform numerical simulations to explore the dynamical evolution of the HD 82943 planetary system. By simulating diverse planetary configurations, we find two mechanisms of stabilizing the system: the 2:1 mean motion resonance between the two planets can act as the first mechanism for all stable orbits. The second mechanism is a dynamical antialignment of the apsidal lines of the orbiting planets, which implies that the difference of the periastron longitudes heta3 librates about 180circ in the simulations. We also use a semi-analytical model to explain the numerical results for the system under study.

At present, more than 100 giant extra-solar planets have been discovered in Doppler surveys of solar-type stars, among which there are 1` multi-planet systems, including eight two-planet systems and two three-planet system. The observations indicate that the mean-motion resonance frequently occurs for planets in multiple-planet systems. By use of the RKF 7 (8) method and symplectic integrators, numerical integration of the two-planet HD 82943 system (in the \(N\)-body problem formulation) is performed for 10 millions years. Two mechanisms of stabilizing the system near 2:1 mean-motion resonance are found.
