Abstract: For any function f in Linfty(mathbbD), let Tf denote the corresponding Toeplitz operator the Bergman space A2(mathbbD). A recent result of D. Luecking shows that if Tf has finite rank then f must be the zero function. Using a refined version of this result, we show that if all except possibly one of the functions f1,...,fm are radial and Tf1...Tfm has finite rank, then one of these functions must be zero.

The paper is devoted to the so-called finite-rank problem for Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space over the unit disk. Extending the recent result of \textit{D. H. Luecking} [``Finite rank Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 136, No.~5, 1717--1723 (2008; Zbl 1152.47021)], the author shows that, if all, except possibly one, of the functions \(f_1,\dots,f_m\) are radial and the product \(T_{f_1}\cdot\dots\cdot T_{f_m}\) is a finite rank operator, then one of the functions must be zero.
