Abstract: We construct relative abelian categories in the sense of MacLane for models of algebraic systems in (co)complete abelian categories. As an example, we consider an analogue of Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology for the functor of Yoneda embedding.
The author studies the cohomology of multi-sorted algebraic systems using some relative homological tehniques. The category of models of an algebraic system is identified with the category of functors from an appropriate small category. Then a relative abelian category associated to a convenient functors can be constructed, and the cohomology theory associated to this category is interpreted as the cohomology theory of the initial algebraic system.
