Abstract: In this paper we obtain higher order asymptotic profilles of solutions to the Cauchy problem of the linear damped wave equation in extbfRn egin{equation*} u_{tt}-Delta u+u_t=0, qquad u(0,x)=u_0(x), quad u_t(0,x)=u_1(x), end{equation*} where ninextbfN and u0, u1inL2(extbfRn). Established hyperbolic part of asymptotic expansion seems to be new in the sense that the order of the expansion of the hyperbolic part depends on the spatial dimension.

The author considers the weakly damped wave equation on \(\mathbb{R}^n\), \[ u_{tt} + u_t - \Delta u = 0, \quad u(0,x) = u_0(x),~~ u_t(0,x) = u_1(x), \] with \(u_0, u_1 \in L^1(\mathbb{R}^n) \cap L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)\). The article presents results on higher order asymptotic expansions of solutions in \(L^2\) for all dimensions \(n\). Of course this article is motivated by the seminal work [\textit{A. Matsumura}, Publ. Res. Inst. Math. Sci. 12, 169--189 (1976; Zbl 0356.35008)]. Of particular note, two results are given in which the order of the expansion depends on \(n\), however, one is able to obtain the integrability of Fourier solution operators in a high frequency region.
