Abstract: We give a product formula for the number of shifted plane partitions of shifted double staircase shape with bounded entries. This is the first new example of a family of shapes with a plane partition product formula in many years. The proof is based on the theory of lozenge tilings; specifically, we apply the "free boundary" Kuo condensation due to Ciucu.

Let \(0 \le k \le n\) be integers. The shifted double staircase shape \(\lambda:=(n,n-1,\ldots,1)+(k,k-1,\ldots,1)\) is a collection of axis-parallel unit squares in \(n\) rows such that, when counted from above, the start of every row is shifted by one unit to the right compared with the previous row and such that the number of squares in the topmost row is \(n+k\), in the second row is \((n-1)+(k-1)\) etc. A shifted plane partition of \(\lambda\) is then a filling of the squares of \(\lambda\) by non-negative integers monotonically non-increasing in every row and in every down column. The authors give a product formula for the number of all such partitions of \(\lambda\) whose entries are at most \(m\). Shifted plane partitions correspond to lozenge tilings of related regions of the plane.
