Abstract: We consider the Diophantine equation 7x2+y2n=4z3. We determine all solutions to this equation for n=2,3,4 and 5. We formulate a Kraus type criterion for showing that the Diophantine equation 7x2+y2p=4z3 has no non-trivial proper integer solutions for specific primes p>7. We computationally verify the criterion for all primes 7<p<109, peq13. We use the symplectic method and quadratic reciprocity to show that the Diophantine equation 7x2+y2p=4z3 has no non-trivial proper solutions for a positive proportion of primes p. In the paper cite{ChDS} we consider the Diophantine equation x2+7y2n=4z3, determining all families of solutions for n=2 and 3, as well as giving a (mostly) conjectural description of the solutions for n=4 and primes ngeq5.

This paper is motivated by the study of the signature \((2,2n,3)\) generalized Fermat equations \(a x^2 + y^{2n} = 4 z^3\) and \(x^2 + a y^{2n} = 4 z^3\) when \(\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-a})\) has class number one. The authors focus on the case \(a = 7\), which is the only case which can have non-trivial coprime integer solutions as the other cases can be resolved by a classical descent argument. For the equation \(7 x^2 + y^{2n} = 4 z^3\), the paper determines all solutions when \(2 \le n \le 5\) using the Chabauty method, and for prime exponents \(n = p \not= 13\) in the range \(7 < p < 10^9\) using the modular method and a Kraus type argument. Additional results for a positive density of primes \(p\) are obtained using the symplectic method, as well as the quadratic reciprocity method. The equation \(x^2 + 7 y^{2n} = 4 z^3\) is considered in the authors' forthcoming work.
