A stratification of B^4(2,K_C) over a general curve
Let \(C\) be a smooth irreducible complex projective curve of genus \(g\geq 10\) with general moduli. The Brill-Noether locus, \(B^r(2,K_C)\), consists of stable vector bundles \(E\) of rank \(2\) such that \(\det(E)=K_C\) and \(h^0(E)\geq r\), where \(K_C\) is the canonical line bundle and \(r\) is a positive integer. In this paper, the authors construct a chain \(\mathcal{B}_n \subset \ldots \subset \mathcal{B}_3\) inside \(B^4(2,K_C)\), where each \(\mathcal{B}_k\) is an irreducible closed sub-variety of dimension \(3g-10-k\) and \(\mathcal{B}_3\) is a regular component. Moreover, any general bundle \(E\in \mathcal{B}_n\) admits an extension \[ 0\to \mathcal{O}_C(D_n)\to E \to K_C(-D_n)\to 0, \] where \(D_n\) is a general effective divisor of degree \(n\).
