Abstract: In this paper we prove some results on the possible multiplicative orders of when is a non-zero element of a finite field of characteristic 2. The results of the paper rely on a previous investigation on the structure of the graphs associated with the map in finite fields of characteristic 2.
The author proves some results on the possible order of \(\alpha+\alpha^{-1}\) for \(\alpha\) a non-zero element of a finite field of even order. The results are based on his earlier paper, [Contemp. Math. 579, 187--204 (2012; Zbl 1302.37074)].
