Abstract: Let mathbfk be a field of arbitrary characteristic, let Lambda be a finite dimensional mathbfk-algebra, and let V be a finitely generated Lambda-module. F. M. Bleher and the third author previously proved that V has a well-defined versal deformation ring R(Lambda,V). If the stable endomorphism ring of V is isomorphic to mathbfk, they also proved under the additional assumption that Lambda is self-injective that R(Lambda,V) is universal. In this paper, we prove instead that if Lambda is arbitrary but V is Gorenstein-projective then R(Lambda,V) is also universal when the stable endomorphism ring of V is isomorphic to mathbfk. Moreover, we show that singular equivalences of Morita type (as introduced by X. W. Chen and L. G. Sun) preserve the isomorphism classes of versal deformation rings of finitely generated Gorenstein-projective modules over Gorenstein algebras. We also provide examples. In particular, if Lambda is a monomial algebra in which there is no overlap (as introduced by X. W. Chen, D. Shen and G. Zhou) we prove that every finitely generated indecomposable Gorenstein-projective Lambda-module has a universal deformation ring that is isomorphic to either mathbfk or to mathbfk[![t]!]/(t2).

The authors continue the study of (uni)versal deformation rings of finitely generated modules over finite dimensional algebras started in [the reviewer and \textit{J. A. Vélez-Marulanda}, J. Algebra 367, 176--202 (2012; Zbl 1301.16013); J. Algebra 491, 90--140 (2017; Zbl 1406.16008)]. Suppose \(\Lambda\) is a finite dimensional algebra over a field \(k\) and that \(V\) is a non-zero finitely generated Gorenstein-projective left \(\Lambda\)-module. The main result of this paper shows that if the stable endomorphism ring of \(V\) is isomorphic to \(k\) then the versal deformation ring \(R(\Lambda,V)\) of \(V\) is universal, and the same is true for the syzygy \(\Omega(V)\). Moreover, if \(\Lambda\) is Gorenstein and \(\Gamma\) is another finite dimensional Gorenstein \(k\)-algebra such that there are bimodules \({}_\Gamma X_\Lambda\) and \({}_\Gamma Y_\Lambda\) that induce a singular equivalence of Morita type between \(\Lambda\) and \(\Gamma\), then \(X\otimes_\Lambda V\) is a finitely generated Gorenstein-projective left \(\Gamma\)-module and its versal deformation ring is isomorphic to \(R(\Lambda,V)\).
