Abstract: We use multiplication maps to give a characteristic-free approach to vanishing theorems on toric varieties. Our approach is very elementary but is enough powerful to prove vanishing theorems.

The main purpose of the paper is to get various vanishing theorems on toric varieties. Two main theorems include earlier vanishing theorems due to Bott, Danilov, Norimatsu, Mustata, Kodaira, Kawamata, Viehweg and others as particular cases. The author proposes an elementary and unified approach based on the so-called multiplication maps. All obtained results are characteristic-free.
