Abstract: We study the regularity of the p-Poisson equation Delta_p u = h, quad hin L^q in the plane. In the case p>2 and 2<q<infty we obtain the sharp H"older exponent for the gradient. In the other cases we come arbitrarily close to the sharp exponent.

Let \(p\in (1,\infty)\), with \(p\neq 2\), and \(q\in (2,\infty]\). The authors study the optimal Hölder exponent for the gradient of the solutions of the \(p\)-Laplace equation \[ \Delta_p u=h, \text{ in }\mathbb{R}^2, \] where \(h\in L^q(\mathbb{R}^2)\). In particular, in the case \(p>2\) and \(q\in (2,\infty)\), the authors prove that this exponent is \(\frac{1-\frac{2}{q}}{p-1}\). For \(p<2\) (resp. \(p>2\) ) and \(q=\infty\), it is shown that the gradient is Hölder continuous with any exponent less than 1 (resp. \(\frac{1}{p-1}\)). Finally, for \(p<2\) and \(q\in (2,\infty)\), the authors prove that the gradient is at least \((1-\frac{2}{q})\)-Hölder continuous. The proof is based on a universal gradient estimate for the solutions of the \(p\)-Laplacian equation in the plane which is derived from the quasiregularity of the complex gradient.
