On a family of relative quartic Thue inequalities
Let \(\mathfrak o_k\) denote the ring of integers of an imaginary quadratic number field \(k\). For parameters \(s,t \in \mathfrak o_k\), the family of Thue inequalities \[ | X^4 - t^2X^2Y^2 + s^2Y^4| \leq | t| ^2 - | s| ^2 -2 \] is investigated, and it is shown that for sufficiently large \(| t| \) there exist only the ``obvious small solutions in \(\mathfrak o_k \times \mathfrak o_k\). For \(s=1\), a very small bound for \(| t| \) is obtained, as well as all solutions for the case that the quartic form equals a root of unity. The proof uses simultaneous Padé approximations in \(\mathfrak o_k\) and generalizes results of \textit{J.H. Rickert} [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 113, 461--472 (1993; Zbl 0786.11040)] and of \textit{I. Wakabayashi} [J. Number Theory 80, 60--88 (2000; Zbl 1047.11030)], who investigated the above family of Thue inequalities for \(s,t \in \mathbb Z\).
