Abstract: For every positive integer n, the quantum integer [n]q is the polynomial [n]q=1+q+q2+...+qn−1. A quadratic addition rule for quantum integers consists of sequences of polynomials mathcalR′=r'n(q)n=1infty, mathcalS′=s'n(q)n=1infty, and mathcalT′=t'm,n(q)m,n=1infty such that [m+n]q=r'n(q)[m]q+s'm(q)[n]q+t'm,n(q)[m]q[n]q for all m and n. This paper gives a complete classification of quadratic addition rules, and also considers sequences of polynomials polf that satisfy the associated functional equation fm+n(q)=r'n(q)fm(q)+s'm(q)fn(q)+t'm,nfm(q)fn(q).

This article is the continuation of the investigation of the second author. It is devoted to the definition of the class of binary operations \(\oplus\) ``quantum addition on the sequence \(\{[n]_q\}_{n=1}^\infty\) of quantum integers. The article gives a complete classification of quadratic additional rules, and also considers sequences of polynomials \(F=\{f_n(q)\}_{n+1}^\infty\) that satisfy the associated functional equation \(f_{m+n}(q)=r'_n(q)f_m(q)+s'_m(q)f_n(q)+t'_{m,n} f_m(q) f_n(q).\)
