Polynomial approximations for elliptic functions.
Setzt man für nicht zu große \(|x|\) und \(0 < y < 1\) in der Bezeichnung Jakobis \[ \mathop{\text{sn}} (x, \sqrt y) = \sum_{s=0}^\infty \frac{(-1)^sx^{2s+1}} {(2s+1)!} \sum_{r=0}^s y^rp_r(s) \tag{1} \] und also \(p_0(s)=1\), \(p_1(s) = 2^{-4}(3^{2s+1} -8s - 3)\), \(\ldots\), dann vereinfacht sich die Entwicklung (1) für \(y\to 0\). Als zweite Näherung findet sich z. B. \[ \begin{aligned} \mathop{\text{sn}} (x,&\sqrt y) + O(y^3)=\sin x+y \frac{\sin3x+\sin x-4x\cos x}{2^4} \tag{2}\\ &{}+y^2\frac{\sin 5x + 8 \sin 3x + (7 - 8x^2) \sin x - 12 \cos 3x - 24x \cos x} {2^8}\,. \end{aligned} \] Führt man gewisse Polynome \(\alpha_t\), \(\beta_t\) in \(x\) ein, welche mittels partieller Differenzengleichungen bestimmt werden, so verallgemeinert sich (2) für \(r > 2\) zu \[ \begin{multlined} \mathop{\text{sn}}(x,\sqrt y) + O(y^{r+1}) =\\ \sin x + \sum_{i=1}^r\left(\frac y{16}\right)^i \sum_{t=0}^i \bigl[\alpha_t \sin x(2r + 1 - 2t) + \beta_t \cos x(2r + 1 - 2t)\bigr]. \end{multlined} \]
