Changes of sign of sums of random variables
Seien \(x_1,x_2,...\) unabhängige stochastische Variablen, alle mit der gleichen stetigen symmetrischen Verteilung und \(s_k=x_1+\cdots +x_k\). Die Verff. beweisen von der speziellen Verteilung der \(x_i\) unabhängige Sätze über die Anzahl der Vorzeichenwechsel in der Folge \(s_1, s_2,...;\) Spezialfälle dieser Sätze unter Voraussetzung, daß \(x_i\) Rademacher-Funktionen sind, wurden von P. Lévy bewiesen. --- \(N_n\) bezeichne die Anzahl der Vorzeichenwechsel in \(s_1, s_2, \cdots s_{n+1}\). Es sei \(\Phi (k)={2 [k/2+1] \over k+1} {k \choose [k/2]}2^{-k}\). Dann gelten die Sätze 1) \(\sum_{k=1}^n {1 \over 2(k+1)} \leq E(N_n)\leq \sum_{k=1}^n \Phi (k)\). 2) Es gilt mit der Wahrscheinlichkeit 1 \(\liminf_{n \to \infty} {N_n \over \log n} \geq {1 \over 2}\). 3) Für gewisse wohlbestimmte Teilfolgen \(s'_1,s_2',...\) gilt \(\lim_{n \to \infty} {N_n \over E(N'_n)}=1\). 4) Es gilt mit der Wahrscheinlichkeit 1 \(\sum_{k=1}^n {\text{sgn}s_k \over k} = o(\log n)\). Die nicht einfachen Beweise für diese Sätze stützen sich auf gewisse Lemmata betr. die Kombinationen \(\pm a_1 \pm a_2 \pm \cdots a_n\), wobei \(a_1, a_2,...,a_n\) positive Zahlen und die vorigen Summen alle voneinander verschieden sind.
