This volume is an account of Jean Piaget's investigations carried out 1978-79 at the International Center for Genetic Epistemology. The book attempts to recast operatory logic by extending it to a construction of a logic of meanings and to a new formulation of propositional logic. Part I is Piaget's own text. Part II is Garcia's effort to incorporate Piaget's work into his own. Garcia shows how Anderson and Belnap's work in logic of relevance can be fruitfully joined with operatory logic. Piaget claims, based on his work with the responses of children to simple problems, that knowledge always involves some inferential dimension. At its most basic level these are implications between meanings. A consequence of this view is that an object of knowledge is nothing but a set of conjoined predicates which explain ``what can be done with it. In general Piaget's work suggests that subjects elaborate many different kinds of statement connectives on the basis of meanings. As Piaget's last word on the subjects is covered by this volume, the book would be of interest to all Piaget scholars and to major libraries. This is an advanced volume which presupposes familiarity with Piaget's previous work.
