The book is a good ``how-to book, supplied with examples and evaluations furnished by the experience derived from actually building an Organizational Decision Support System (ODSS). The system in question is called EFMS (Enlisted Force Management System) and is being used to help members of the Air Staff in the Pentagon make decisions related to their enlisted personnel. The definition of ODSS is given as ``a DSS that is used by individuals or groups at several workstations in more than one organizational unit who make varied (interrelated and autonomous) decisions using a common set of tools. It provides distributed decision support to distributed decision making. Because of the nontechnical style of the exposition, the book can be read usefully by all the persons involved in the development of an ODSS: the analysts, programmars and information systems staff (to which some technical information are furnished) and users and top managers who might be considering introducing an ODSS into their organization.
