Abstract: We consider the multifractal structure of the Bernoulli convolution ulambda, where lambda1 is a Salem number in (1,2). Let au(q) denote the Lq spectrum of ulambda. We show that if alphain[au(+infty),au(0+)], then the level set E(alpha):={xin R:; lim_{r o 0}frac{log u_lambda([x-r, x+r])}{log r}=alpha} is non-empty and dimHE(alpha)=au(alpha), where au* denotes the Legendre transform of au. This result extends to all self-conformal measures satisfying the asymptotically weak separation condition. We point out that the interval [au(+infty),au(0+)] is not a singleton when lambda1 is the largest real root of the polynomial xnxn1...x+1, ngeq4. An example is constructed to show that absolutely continuous self-similar measures may also have rich multifractal structures.
