Classification of 2-dimensional graded normal hypersurfaces with \(a(R) \leq 6\)

Abstract: Let k be a field of any characteristic and R = k[x,y,z]/(f) be a graded normal hypersurface. We call (a,b,c; h) = deg(x,y,z;f) the type of R with gcd(a,b,c)=1. Then the a-invariant a(R) is given by h - (a+b+c). The classification of such R (or f) was made by many authors (Arnold, Saito, Wagreich, ...). Here we classify the possible types of R for a fixed a(R) with −1lea(R)le6 by commutative ring theoretic method using the Dolgachev-Pinkham-Demazure construction of normal graded rings. We also show that if we fix a(R)ge0, then the number of possible types of R is finite.

The purpose of this paper is to classify two-dimensional normal weighted homogeneous hypersurface \(R=k[x,y,z]/(f)\) with given \(a\)-invariant \(a(R)\leq 6\). In fact, the author provides the list of all the possible weights for given \(a(R)\leq 6\) and the \(\mathbb Q\)-divisor \(D\) on \(X=\mathrm{Proj} (R)\) of the Dolgachev-Pinkham-Demazure construction \(R=R(X,D)\). From these data, we can easily see the resolution graph of the singularity of \(\mathrm{Spec} (R)\). The author also proved that for given positive integer \(\alpha\), the number of weights of two-dimensional normal weighted homogeneous hypersurface \(R\) with \(a(R)=\alpha\) is finite. The first section of the paper summarizes fundamental results on the expression \(R(X,D)\), weights and the \(a\)-invariant.
