Abstract: Let Gamma denote a bipartite distance-regular graph with diameter Dge4 and valency kge3. Let X denote the vertex set of Gamma, and let A denote the adjacency matrix of Gamma. For xinX let T=T(x) denote the subalgebra of MatX(mathbbC generated by A,E0,Es1,ldots,ED, where for 0leileD, Ei represents the projection onto the ith subconstituent of Gamma with respect to x. We refer to T as the {em Terwilliger algebra} of Gamma with respect to x. An irreducible T-module W is said to be {em thin} whenever dim EiWle1 for 0leileD. By the {em endpoint} of W we mean mini|EiWe0. For 0leileD, let Gammai(z) denote the set of vertices in X that are distance i from vertex z. Define a parameter Delta2 in terms of the intersection numbers by Delta2=(k2)(c31)(c21)p222. In this paper we prove the following are equivalent: (i) Delta2>0 and for 2leileD2 there exist complex scalars with the following property: for all x,y,zinX such that partial(x,y)=2,:partial(x,z)=i,:partial(y,z)=i we have (ii) For all xinX there exist up to isomorphism exactly two irreducible modules for the Terwilliger algebra T(x) with endpoint two, and these modules are thin.
