Abstract: We consider the problem [ -Delta u=|u|^{p-2}u in Omega, u=0 on partialOmega, ] where Omega:=(y,z)inmathbbRm+1imesmathbbRNm1:0<a<|y|<b<infty, 0leqmleqN1 and Ngeq2. Let 2N,mast:=2(Nm)/(Nm2) if m<N2 and 2N,mast:=infty if m=N2 or N1. We show that 2N,mast is the true critical exponent for this problem, and that there exist nontrivial solutions if 2<p<2N,mast but there are no such solutions if pgeq2N,mast.
