On spaceability of shift-like operators on L^p
Spaces of measurable functions ((L^p)-spaces, Orlicz spaces, Köthe function spaces, Lorentz spaces, rearrangement invariant spaces, ideal spaces, etc.) (46E30) Cyclic vectors, hypercyclic and chaotic operators (47A16) Linear composition operators (47B33) Linear operators on special spaces (weighted shifts, operators on sequence spaces, etc.) (47B37)
A subset \(M\) of a Banach space \(X\) is called spaceable if \(M \cup \{ 0 \}\) contains a closed subspace of infinite dimension. The authors prove that the set of hypercyclic vectors for shift-like operators, which appear as composition operators on \(L^p(X)\), when the underlying measure space \(X\) is dissipative, is spaceable. Other results of independent interest are shown in the process of proving the main result. For example, a characterization of weakly mixing dissipative composition operators of bounded distortion is given.
