The authors investigate the minimization of the Ginzburg-Landau energy, focusing on the scenario where the Ginzburg-Landau parameter \(\kappa\) is large. This parameter is of physical interest because it induces the appearance of vortex lattices, which have to be captured by the mesh. Consequently, the authors provide error estimates for the error \(u - u_h\) in both the \(L^2(\Omega)\) norm and a \(\kappa\)-weighted \(H^1(\Omega)\) norm. These estimates, detailed in Theorem 3.3, are explicitly dependent on the mesh width \(h\) and the parameter \(\kappa\). The theorem also provides explicit bounds for the energy error \(E(u_h) - E(u)\).\N\NIn Corollary 3.4, the authors extend the abstract results of Theorem 3.3 to Lagrange finite element methods. Numerical experiments presented in Section 4 verify that the proposed error estimates are optimal with respect to both \(\kappa\) and \(h\). The paper concludes in Section 6 with a discussion on the potential for relaxed \(\kappa\)-dependence when using localized orthogonal decomposition (LOD) spaces.
