Abstract: For a simple vertex operator algebra V and a finite automorphism group G of V then V is a direct sum of Vchi where chi are irreducible character of G and Vchi is the subspace of V which G acts according to the character chi. We prove the following: 1. Each Vchi is nonzero. 2. Vchi is a tensor product MchiotimesVchi where Mchi is an irreducible G-module affording chi and Vchi is a VG-module. If G is solvable, Vchi is a simple VG-module and MchimapstoV_{chi}isabijectionfromthesetofirreducibleGmodulestothesetof(inequivalent)simpleV^GmoduleswhicharecontainedinV.$
