The eventual shape of the Betti table of m^k M
The authors study the asymptotic behavior of the graded Betti tables of the modules \(\mathfrak m^k M\), where \(M\) is a finitely generated graded module over a standard graded polynomial ring and \(\mathfrak m\) denotes the graded maximal ideal. It is known that for large \(k\), the modules \(\mathfrak m^k M\) are componentwise linear. Assuming \(\operatorname{depth} M > 0\), the paper describes in detail the eventual pattern of the Betti tables of these powers.\N\NThe main result shows that, beyond a certain bound \(c_M\), all nonzero strands in the Betti table of \(\mathfrak m^k M\) are full, and that the shape of the Betti table stabilizes for all sufficiently large \(k\). Moreover, the authors establish a precise correspondence between the nonzero strands of \(\mathfrak m^k M\) and those of \(\mathfrak m^{k+1} M\), and characterize the degrees in which nonzero strands occur in terms of the minimal generators of \(M\). Under the additional assumption that \(\operatorname{depth} \operatorname{gr}_{\mathfrak m}(M) > 0\), a complete description of the nonzero strands is obtained.\N\NIn the special case where \(M = I\) is a monomial ideal, the authors prove that \(\mathfrak m^k I\) has linear quotients for all sufficiently large \(k\), strengthening known results on componentwise linearity. The proofs rely on homological techniques involving Tor modules, componentwise linearity, and earlier results of Nguyen, Rossi, and Sharifan. Several examples illustrate the theoretical results.
