Publication:6903523

The author begins his comparison of Weber's ``Textbook of algebra and Kronecker's ``Lectures on the theory of algebraic equations with a brief characterization of the scientific careers of the two mathematicians and their ideas about algebra. He then analyzes in detail the content and structure of the two publications as well as the views on algebra expressed by the two authors in their publications and lectures. The focus is on the concept of the root of an equation and Sturm's theorem on the number of roots of a real polynomial. At the same time, the whole is placed in the context of the history of algebra.
