Mirror symmetry, Laurent inversion, and the classification of Q-Fano threefolds

The paper under review studies mirror symmetry for (possibly singular) Fano varieties. In particular, it focuses on a conjectural correspondence, predicted by mirror symmetry, between Fano varieties that admit degenerations to toric varieties and a distinguished class of Laurent polynomials known as rigid maximally mutable Laurent polynomials [\textit{T. Coates} et al., Proc. R. Soc. Lond., A, Math. Phys. Eng. Sci. 477, No. 2254, Article ID 20210584, 21 p. (2021; Zbl 1565.14078)]. The authors investigate this conjecture in dimension three by systematically analyzing available databases containing numerical data on Fano threefolds.\N\NIn addition, the paper offers a conceptual interpretation of Laurent inversion, introduced by \textit{T. Coates} et al. [Pure Appl. Math. Q. 15, No. 4, 1135--1179 (2019; Zbl 1439.14122)], which is a method for reconstructing certain Fano varieties -- such as complete intersections in toric varieties, from the data of a maximally mutable Laurent polynomial, under suitable assumptions.
