Classification of hypersurfaces in the four dimensional Thurston geometry Sol_m,n^4
In this paper, the authors focus on hypersurfaces of \(\mathrm{Sol}^4_{m,n}\) providing a classification of Codazzi totally geodesic and parallel hypersurfaces. They show that every Codazzi hypersurface is parallel but not totally geodesic in general. In Section 4, they classify totally umbilical hypersurfaces which are equivalent to totally geodesic hypersurfaces. Note that the Lie group \(\mathrm{Sol}^4_{m,n}\) is a semidirect product of \(\mathbb{R}^3\) and \(\mathbb{R}\) by a diagonal matrix of zero trace. A special case occurs when this Lie group is a direct product, thus a trivial extension of the 3-dimensional Sol geometry. The paper shows several computations of tensors, shape operators and so on. However not so many examples of explicit functions are shown even when the hypersurfaces under consideration depend on some local functions \(a,b, c, d\). In fact, formulas are presented in terms of polynomial equations on these parameters.
