This paper takes issue with the (in the author's view, all-too-prevalent) characterization of du~Châtelet's \textit{Institutions de physique} as an exposition of ``Newtonian physics. The author considers over a dozen different interpretations of the adjective ``Newtonian and argues that each, in turn, either (1) inaccurately describes what du~Châtelet presents in his \textit{Institutions} or (2) is so broad as to be uninformative.\N\NFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1555.01004].
