Abstract: The paper deals with the equation Deltau+a(x)u=|u|p1u, uinH1(mathbbRN), with Nge2, p>1,p<N+2overN2 if Nge3, ainLlocN/2(mathbbRN), infa>0, lim|x|oinftya(x)=ainfty. Assuming on the potential that lim|x|oinfty[a(x)ainfty]eeta|x|=inftyforalleta>0 and limhooinftysuplefta(hoheta1)a(hoheta2):heta1,heta2inmathbbRN,|heta1|=|heta2|=1ighteildeetaho=0mboxforsomeildeeta>0, but not requiring any symmetry, the existence of infinitely many positive multi-bump solutions is proved. This result considerably improves those of previous papers [8,12,15,17,28].
