Abstract: Let G be a finite group acting on the rational function field mathbbC(xg:ginG) by mathbbC-automorphisms h(xg)=xhg for any g,hinG. Noether's problem asks whether the invariant field mathbbC(G)=k(xg:ginG)G is rational (i.e. purely transcendental) over mathbbC. Saltman and Bogomolov, respectively, showed that for any prime p there exist groups G of order p9 and of order p6 such that mathbbC(G) is not rational over mathbbC by showing the non-vanishing of the unramified Brauer group: Brnr(mathbbC(G))eq0. For p=2, Chu, Hu, Kang and Prokhorov proved that if G is a 2-group of order leq32, then mathbbC(G) is rational over mathbbC. Chu, Hu, Kang and Kunyavskii showed that if G is of order 64, then mathbbC(G) is rational over mathbbC except for the groups G belonging to the two isoclinism families Phi13 and Phi16. Bogomolov and B"ohning's theorem claims that if G1 and G2 belong to the same isoclinism family, then mathbbC(G1) and mathbbC(G2) are stably mathbbC-isomorphic. We investigate the birational classification of mathbbC(G) for groups G of order 128 with Brnr(mathbbC(G))eq0. Moravec showed that there exist exactly 220 groups G of order 128 with Brnr(mathbbC(G))eq0 forming 11 isoclinism families Phij. We show that if G1 and G2 belong to Phi16,Phi31,Phi37,Phi39,Phi43,Phi58,Phi60 or Phi80 (resp. Phi106 or Phi114), then mathbbC(G1) and mathbbC(G2) are stably mathbbC-isomorphic with Brnr(mathbbC(Gi))simeqC2. Explicit structures of non-rational fields mathbbC(G) are given for each cases including also the case Phi30 with Brnr(mathbbC(G))simeqC2imesC2.
