Rigidity and triangularity of an exponential map
The paper under review studies exponential maps on polynomial rings, viewed as a generalization of locally nilpotent derivations, and focuses on the notions of rigidity and triangularity. The main results establish that all exponential maps of \(k^{[3]}\) are rigid and provide necessary and sufficient conditions for triangularity. In addition, these results are extended to polynomial rings \(A^{[3]}\) under a natural rank condition, namely \(\mathrm{rank}(\delta) = \mathrm{rank}(\delta_K)\).\N\NThe work can be seen as a systematic extension of known results for locally nilpotent derivations to the setting of exponential maps. In particular, the rigidity of derivations of \(k[X,Y,Z]\) in characteristic zero, due to Daigle, and subsequent generalizations by Keshari and Lokhande, are here adapted to arbitrary characteristic and to exponential maps. The proofs largely follow the existing strategies, with suitable modifications to handle the more general framework.\N\NThe results are technically sound and the exposition is clear. However, the novelty is mainly of a generalizing nature: no essentially new methods are introduced, and the arguments rely on established techniques from the theory of polynomial automorphisms and invariant theory. The contribution thus lies in extending the scope of known theorems rather than developing new conceptual tools.\N\NOverall, the paper provides a coherent and useful addition to the literature on exponential maps and affine algebraic geometry, particularly in clarifying the behavior of rigidity and triangularity beyond the classical characteristic zero setting.
