Simultaneous stabilization using evolutionary strategies

From MaRDI portal

The paper deals with the simultaneous stabilization problem for linear time invariant single-input single-output proper systems by means of a linear dynamic controller. The idea is to find the coprime polynomials of a simultaneously stabilizing controller by an evolutionary strategy algorithm: Starting from a set of initial polynomials new elements are obtained by recombination and mutation. The necessary codification, evaluation and selection steps are described in detail. In addition, several results on the preservation of simultaneous stability under substitution of the rational functions in the plants are derived. This can be used in order to obtain stabilizing controllers for one family of plants from those for another family. Several examples (among them, one example where 80 plants are stabilized simultaneously) are given. Finally, the limitations of the algorithms are discussed; in particular it is noted that this approach gives neither sufficient nor necessary conditions for simultaneous stabilizability.
