General relativity is a physical theory with geometric basis. Einstein's point of view on gravity is that gravity is equivalent to geometry. This book is written for those readers who are interested in the geometric origin of Einstein gravity. All geometric concepts necessary for understanding of general relativity are consequently introduced. Special attention is to paid pseudo-Riemannian manifolds which are the geometric basis of any modern gravitational theory. On the basis of this extensive geometric introduction the four-dimensional gravitational theory is given. Some solutions of the Einstein theory having very important physical significance are presented: the cosmological Robertson-Walker and spherically symmetric solutions. The textbook ends with a discussion of the problems related with the causality and singularity theorems. Especially this book will be useful for those readers interested in the mathematical foundations of modern gravitational theories.
