The monograph is a book edition of the author's PhD thesis (1997; Zbl 0874.65050). It deals with the innovative methods for the solution of multibody systems (MBS) described by systems of differential-algebraic equations with the emphasis on interdependence between their modeling and numerical solution. Modifications of non-stiff ordinary differential equation solvers are shown as a very effective tool for solving a large class of the MBS. Particularly, implicit methods are presented to match optimally linearly implicit structure of the MBS equations, and thus allowing to solve them by using an inverse dynamics approach. The importance of software development in scientific computations is emphasized. The book may serve as an convenient example of a complete interdisciplinary solution of modeling and simulation of multibody descriptor systems. It will be useful to researchers dealing with this subject of technical mechanics mainly in various applications.
