The authors study the bicomplex Vekua equations of the form \(w_{\overline z}= a(z)w+ b(z)\overline w\), where \(a\), \(b\), and \(w\) are functions of the complex variable \(z= x+iy\) which take values in the bicomplex numbers. First results in studying these equations can be found in [\textit{G. P. Youvaraj} and \textit{R. K. Jain}, Complex Variables, Theory Appl. 15, No. 4, 259--278 (1990; Zbl 0717.30037)]. A theory of bicomplex pseudoanalytic formal powers analogous to that developed by Bers is constructed in the paper under review, and main results concern negative formal powers for the bicomplex Vekua equations and their applications. A Cauchy integral formula is derived for bicomplex pseudoanalytic functions -- a formula shown to be valid for a Cauchy kernel in a class called reproducing Cauchy kernels which are completely characterized. The relationship between the main Vekua equations and stationary Schrödinger equations with complex-valued potentials is used to get connections between the reproducing Cauchy kernels and the fundamental solutions for the Schrödinger operations. The paper is well written and contains a useful lengthy introduction, a section on fundamentals of bicomplex numbers, and a good reference list.
