For each integer \(n>0\), the author constructs a surface \(U_d\subset\mathbb P^3(\mathbb C)\) of degree \(d=3n\) with a large number of nodes, improving Chmutov's lower bound by a linear term \(\lfloor(d-1)/2\rfloor\). The construction follows \textit{S. V. Chmutov}'s ideas [J. Algebr. Geom. 1, No. 2, 191--196 (1992; Zbl 0785.14020)], using a slightly modified folding polynomial. The author announces also the existence of real surfaces with the same number of real singularities. As another application of the new family of folding polynomials, hypersurfaces in \(\mathbb P^4(\mathbb C)\) with many nodes are constructed, improving Chmutov's bound by \(3n(n-1)\).
