Summary: We consider a class of homeomorphisms \(f\) from \(\Omega \subset \mathbb R^2 \) onto \(\Omega' \subset \mathbb R^2 \) of the Sobolev space \(\mathcal W^{1,1}_{\text{loc}}\big(\Omega; \mathbb{R}^2\big)\) whose Jacobian may vanish on a set of positive measure but cannot be zero a.e. in \(\Omega\). This class is defined by the bi-Sobolev condition \[ f \in \mathcal W^{1,1}_{\text{loc}} \quad \text{and} \quad f^{-1} \in \mathcal W^{1,1}_{\text{loc}}, \] and reveals useful also in the theory of changes of variables for Sobolev functions.
