A Cauchy space is a pair \((X,\mathcal K)\) where \(X\) is a set and \(\mathcal K\) is a family of filters on \(X\) which contains all principal ultrafilters, contains filter \(\beta\) whenever \(\beta\supset\alpha\in\mathcal K\), and contains \(\alpha\cap\beta\) whenever \(\alpha,\beta\in\mathcal K\) and \(\forall U\in\alpha,\forall V\in\beta\) we have \(U\cap V\not=\varnothing\). Characterisations of (strongly) closed subspaces as well as notions of connected, compact, T\(_0\), T\(_1\) and T\(_2\) Cauchy spaces are given. In particular it is found that strongly closed and closed are the same in a Cauchy space.
